Soft reservoir water. Treat chlorine, not a hardness myth.

City Water Filtration in Scranton & Wilkes-Barre

Pennsylvania American Water and Hazleton City Authority reports put this valley’s municipal supply in officially soft territory. City water filtration here is carbon for chlorine taste and sediment from anthracite-era mains — plus kitchen reverse osmosis when a pre-war house fails a lead sample. We will not sell a softener for a problem the CCR says you do not have.

Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, and Hazleton share the pattern with local twists. Wells in the Abingtons, Back Mountain, and around Drums do not. This page is for municipal taps. The free test is how we refuse to treat a Clarks Summit well like a Hill Section rowhome.

Frequently asked questions

Is Scranton and Wilkes-Barre water hard?
On city supply, no. Utility reports put Scranton around 1.6 grains per gallon and Wilkes-Barre around 1.3–2.8. Hazleton’s authority lists 0.5–2. Softeners belong on wells, not these taps.
What does city water filtration cost here?
We quote after the free in-home test, in writing, with no obligation. We do not publish prices because a carbon-only city home and a well home in Dallas are not the same job.
Why filter if the plant already treats it?
The plant does not ride with the water through coal-era mains or through 1920s solder. Taste, grit, and in-house lead are the last stretch.
Whole-home or kitchen only?
Carbon whole-home for taste and showers. RO at the kitchen for lead or PFAS. Many pre-war homes want both; many newer homes want carbon only.

This page is not your design. Well water treatment is — iron, sulfur, maybe real hardness. We will put you on that visit instead.
